Privacy

The short version: the game keeps as little as it can, for as short a time as it can. There are no adverts, no tracking cookies and no analytics.
Who looks after your data
D Harries Ltd (company number 12135456, registered office 71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2H 9JQ, United Kingdom) is responsible for your data under UK data protection law. Contact us at hello@magnificentbarstars.com about anything on this page.
When you play
- What: the name you type, your bar's name, the cards you play and any words you type during a game.
- Why: to run the game you're in and show it on the shared screen. We need it to provide the game.
- How long: the whole game is deleted 12 hours after the last move. We never build a profile of players and don't ask for an email to play.
- Your phone remembers which seat you're in, using your browser's storage, so you can rejoin if the connection drops. The shared screen remembers whether "hide text" is on. Neither is a tracking cookie and neither leaves your device except to rejoin your own game.
The mailing list
- What: your email address, when you signed up and which page you used.
- Why: to tell you when the game goes on sale and send the odd bit of BarStars news, because you asked us to (your consent).
- How long: until you leave. Every email has a way to leave, or just email us and we'll remove you.
- We'll use an email sending service to send these emails; we'll name it here when we choose one. We never sell or share the list.
When you buy
- Polar (Polar Software, Inc.) runs our checkout as Merchant of Record. Polar collects your payment details, and we never see your card. See Polar's privacy policy.
- Polar shares your email address, country and order details with us, so we can send and resend your unlock code and help if something goes wrong. We need it to provide what you bought, and keep it for as long as tax and accounting rules require (usually 6 years).
Behind the scenes
- Cloudflare hosts the game and this website. Like any web host, it sees your IP address and basic details of each request. We use these to keep the game safe, for example to stop one address opening hundreds of rooms. Cloudflare keeps our error logs for a few days.
- Google Fonts supplies the lettering on the pages, so your browser fetches fonts from Google, which sees your IP address. See Google's privacy policy.
- These companies may handle data outside the UK. When they do, they use safeguards approved under UK law.
Children
The game is made for adults and is not aimed at anyone under 18. Players don't need an account or an email address, and a game's contents are deleted within 12 hours. The mailing list is for people aged 18 and over.
Your rights
You can ask to see the data we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, object to how we use it, or take it elsewhere. Where we rely on your consent (the mailing list), you can withdraw it at any time. Email hello@magnificentbarstars.com. If you're not happy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Changes
If we change how we use data, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
